“Adopt the pace of nature: her secret is patience.”

When people think about stress relief, they often assume it requires something big ... a retreat, a week off, a major reset.
But the research says something simplier.
A 2019 study published in Frontiers in Psychology found that spending just 20–30 minutes in nature significantly lowered cortisol levels, the body’s primary stress hormone. Participants didn’t exercise. They didn’t journal. They simply sat or walked quietly outdoors.
The reduction was measurable.
Other studies show that even brief exposure to green spaces can lower heart rate and blood pressure. The body begins to shift out of fight-or-flight and into something steadier.
This matters because depression and chronic stress are not just emotional states, they are physiological patterns. Elevated cortisol over time affects sleep, digestion, concentration, and mood regulation.
Sometimes we don’t need intensity. We need consistency.
Twenty minutes of trees.
Twenty minutes of water.
Twenty minutes without demands.
The nervous system responds to that kind of reliability.

If you are so inclined ... writing about your emotions and needs has been proven to be beneficial in helping to gain peace and alleviate stress. There’s no right way to answer.
When was the last time I spent 20 uninterrupted minutes outside? What did I notice in my body afterward?
What would make it easier to build small, consistent nature breaks into my week?
